How This Calculator Works

The average buy price (also called volume-weighted average price, VWAP) is the single price that, multiplied by all the tokens you hold, equals the total amount you paid — including fees. It is what you should use whenever anyone asks "what's your entry?"

Mathematically, weighted average price = total amount invested ÷ total quantity acquired. We treat "amount invested" as the full cash you sent, including exchange fees, and include the fee row so the resulting break-even price accounts for them.

Example

Buy 0.5 BTC at $20,000 ($10,000 invested, 0.10% fee). Buy another 0.25 BTC at $30,000 ($7,500 invested, 0.10% fee). Total invested: $17,500 + fees ≈ $17,535; total BTC: 0.75; weighted average ≈ $23,380 per BTC. The break-even price — the price at which selling would recover cost and fees — is also ≈ $23,380 per BTC when the fees are tiny, and slightly higher otherwise.

Important Notes

• Different exchanges have different fee structures; if you use a fee tier, set the fee % per row accordingly.
• For tax reporting, most jurisdictions allow you to add acquisition fees to your cost basis, just as this calculator does.
• This calculator does not model token splits, airdrops, or staking distributions.
