How This Calculator Works

Break-even in trading is the price at which selling recovers the entire cost, including fees. Our formula accounts for both a buy-side fee (added to the cost basis) and a sell-side fee (deducted from the proceeds) so the price you see is the precise number that nets to zero.

Formula

Cost basis = entry × qty × (1 + buy fee % ÷ 100). Break-even sell price = entry × (1 + buy fee % ÷ 100) ÷ (1 − sell fee % ÷ 100). Net P/L at a chosen sell price = (sell × qty × (1 − sell fee % ÷ 100)) − cost basis.

Example

You buy 0.5 BTC at $30,000 with 0.10% buy fee and 0.10% sell fee. Without fees, break-even is $30,000. With fees, the break-even sell price is 30,000 × 1.001 ÷ 0.999 ≈ $30,060. Selling at $33,000 yields a profit of about $1,470 after fees.

Important Notes

  • Fees on futures and options trades are usually based on notional or on funding, not on spot percentage — adjust accordingly.
  • Some exchanges charge withdrawal or settlement fees; this calculator does not model them.
  • This is a tool, not advice on whether the trade is worth taking.
